Laundry day

I started laundry at about 7:00 this morning. I kept it moving all day. It's now 9:00pm and the last load is finally sitting in the dryer waiting to be folded. How on earth does a family of 5 have such a ridiculous amount of laundry for one week??? I don't get laundry. Some weeks are like this (although, I think I did more loads today than I've ever done in a single day) and other weeks we only have a few loads to do. It's never made sense to me. I remember when Spencer and I first got married I would do 3 loads a week. 1 load of colors, 1 whites, and 1 sheets and towels. I miss those days.

We are pushing 4 loads a week. It adds up so quickly! I remember my mom doing laundry everyday and I wondered why we always had so much to do.

7 kids+2 adults=I get it now.

We have this problem too! I usually have three loads for Chris and I (Darks, whites and work stuff) 2 loads for the boys, jacie's load, then 5-6 beds worth of sheets, and towels too. It's exhausting just to think about.

Laundry used to be a serious issue at our house. (And kind of is again since I have to now drag everything into the basement miserable pregnant. And becuase the sump pump kicks on whenever the washer drains and shakes the whole upstairs waking any sleeping kids. As in, it is hard to plan it right to get it all done.)

But things became much less stressful in this area when I made a schedule. At our house, Mondays are linens, as I change all the sheets on Mondays. Tuesdays are the boys clothes, wednesday Selah's, Thursday, B's and mine, and Friday whites. This has helped me so much becuase I know I have certain loads to get done each day. Plus, when it comes to folding and putting away the laundry it is SO much less stressful when all the loads are already sorted by room. There are many less piles to put away each day, and that makes it much easier to do it as I am not as overwhelmed.

But then, maybe you've already tried something like this and it's just easier for you to do it all in one day. In that case, just ignore me :)

It always posts my comment twice on your blog for some reason. Weird.

Yeah, I'm a get it all done in one day type person. I can't handle having to do it every single day.
In fact, I prefer doing EVERYTHING on the same day. I used to. Scrub bathrooms, mop floors, dust, laundry. It was all done on the same day of the week. Once Nathaniel gets a little older I'll definitely be going back to that. I like only having to do the basics, like dishes and picking up everyday. Of course, with 3 kids I'll NEVER again be able to only vacuum once a week so that's now included in the basics.

I love being old and having no one to clean up after. Emerson does his own laundry except last week when I did it because he was so backed up. Curt usually starts his own and then I finish. I do iron Emerson's shirts so he will look spiffy at school! I think all moms with little kids need a laundry service. Wouldn't that be fun.
